Scouting

If you aren’t true PvP gamer, just humble PvE… and want to fly over low/null sec on big, slow, expensive ship (darnit... why we can't do 10/10 plexes on a cheap and small ones?) – you need scout. He’ll fly ahead on the white horse something small and cheap and look around the corner. Of course, you must play in two or more windows for this.

When I was newby i used shuttles for this purposes. But then found a better option.

Why I don’t like shuttles?

The main reason: if you get into a gate camp - you're dead. No options. It’s not so bad when you fly around your home system and without implants. But if you want to fly for 15-20 jumps? It turns out a huge waste of time - slave can not fly further without scout. But when you have flown there again, how do you know that the gate camp are no more? You jump in… and if they are still there – you’re dead again. And if along the way several of these systems? What to do?

Alternative

Now instead of shuttle I use t1 frigates (usually interceptor) with a particular (but also t1) fit. It is not expensive compared to those ships which lead. And it have good chance break through gate camp, even if there are bubbles. Look at this fit:

How to use it?

Situation I

You had warped to gate and was caught by a bubble. You need to overcome 15-20-30 km, 100km as maximum, if bubble pulled you away from the gate. Immediately press “Jump to” and turn on microwarp drive. In very rare cases campers have time to use warp scramble. Even if they use it after you turn on mwd – you already has speed about some km/s. You either have time to go beyond the action of warp scrambler or enter into it at a speed of 4 km/c and jump to next system before they have time to do something bad. And not every scrambler will cope with two warp stabs.

Situation II

You jump into system and see around hostiles and bubble. You have 30 seconds to think about where to run away. It is best to run away from the main forces of the enemy, well if there is a suitable planet to which you can align. If not - just break through

  • press “Align to”
  • turn on micro warp drive
  • spam “Warp to” button.

It's important – you must turn on mwd before press “warp to”, because if you do the contrary,  it can happen that you do not have the energy for mwd activation.

In both situation you have a real chance to escape. Of course, you should use all usual trics for safe low/null flying, then you will live longer.

Just one more fit. I often use it for cyno (currently missing) due to the presence of a sufficiently large cargohold (Slasher has too little one for my skills).

Afterburner, Jury Rigging and Mechanics is prereqisites for other skills. Other skills should be 3 as minimum, more is better. Also don’t forget about other support skills: shields, energy system, armor, electronics…
